If you became the last person on Earth, what would you do?

I found this question here. Since I read it, I’ve been doing some research on how others answered this question.

Most people go along the lines of doing or experiencing stuff they likely never can again in the near future. Thinking about that I realized that there’s very little – if anything – in that category that does the trick for me, keeping in mind that I really am the last person alive.

I’ve read about exotic fruit, certain meats, stuff that you need knowledgeable people to obtain. Very little Nothing of that really holds serious appeal for me. I guess it’s kinda sad for me to say something like that, but thats the fact.

My main – initial – concern would be more along the lines of: Hoping the Internet survives for some time, because then I can research some stuff on how I can survive the longest. A little knowledge about agriculture, some smelting and basic stuff like that.

After I researched that – and more than likely in between – I’d do crazy stuff. Really crazy stuff. Like driving cars at insensible speeds within a city (please know, that I never obtained a drivers license). Flying planes even though I’m pretty sure I can take off, but landing might be a serious problem. Blowing stuff up1. Trying, how bullet proof bullet proof glass really is2.

If I figure out the whole plane issue, I think I’d visit some known and unknown places, since there’s likely enough planes sitting around. To see what has changed, or see what I’ve not seen before. Vandalism would no longer concern me, so I could see some things that very few people have ever seen. I guess, that’s curiosity getting the better of me. The Pyramids of Gizeh, the stuff they won’t let you see, stuff like that.

After I’ve satiated my desire for that, I guess I would really turn towards the destructive side of things. Why conserve anything if I am the last person to ever experience it? Blow stuff up, see how realistic certain movie scenarios really are, without having to bother about cops showing up. I guess most people have thought about robbing a bank. Why not try how hard it really is, if there are no repercussions? Sure, the money won’t do me any good, but I’d have quenched a wish to know. :) And I think it might be fun.

I’m sure, that somewhere in between3 I’d visit the graves, or dying places, of the people I hold dear, and provide proper burials for the ones who’ve not yet had them. Reminiscence about them, and probably cry a good deal.

I’m pretty sure a lot of the people I know think I’m batshit crazy for (most of) these thoughts, but then again: Why spend any energy on survival if you know there’s not any person to share it with? I’m pretty convinced most of this would likely change if I where one of two people surviving4. Preferably someone of the other sex, so we might have the illusion of re-starting mankind and all that. :P

Due to the length of this post I kind of dislike calling this “My 2 cents” … this are more like 20 dollars. :) But whatever. These are my thoughts on the matter.

Thanks for reading my ravings. :)
