Employee motivation

Lately I’ve had quite a few thoughts on the general subject of “Motivation”. Why does one attempt to motivate employees? How does one motivate employees?

Speaking with my colleagues and gauging the general sentiment in our segment of the industry I arrive at the conclusion that … nobody bloody fucking cares about how motivated ones employees are.

From what I – personally – experience most days, I would have to conclude that some obscure power has decreased the average humans IQ by a certain number of points, over night. I concur that if this where true, mankind would become extinct within about a few months time.

But the very fact that this is how I feel about this does shed a light on something. Talking to my colleagues I discover that I am not the only one who thinks this way. Therefore I conclude that I am – at least – partially right.

Which begs the question: What desire would any company have to decrease it’s average IQ? Costs, of course. The more intelligent a person, the more they want to be payed. But if someone with an IQ of 120 desires 4000 in pay, can one substitute his knowledge with 4 people with 1000 pay?
I think not. And most people I talk to agree with me. Unfortunately none of those people are “important” enough to affect such decisions.

Now, if we take this “mental experiment” further, what does this produce? X amount of people, receiving Y amount of pay with X/Y amount of experience. ANY person with the most basic understanding of math can figure out that this is probably less desirable than ONE person with ALL the knowledge of 4 people… Unless of course your job description carries within it the word “manager”. That absolves you from ever again using your mental capacities… Why ever would we want a company to work more efficient i9f that could potentially decrease the money we make – in the next few months? God help us, if we attempt to think “long-term”! That is SO last century.

It is a pity if one has an even average IQ. Because then one sees how ridiculously stupid most managerial decisions are these days. Maybe we really should adopt the “Brave new world” approach and artificially dumb down future generations…
Where can I have my IQ decreased? I’d even be willing to pay a fee!
Obviously copious amounts of alcohol over an extended period of time can’t keep up with the degeneration of values. I am unable to degenerate my brain as fast as social and other vluaes get ignored by the current corporate ideals.

I am sure, that not one person of interest will care for my opinion, but I felt an urge to publicize it… Sorry to have annoyed you.
